There are strange movies, and then there is Rokuroku: The Promise of the Witch.Currently on the festival circuit and having played at the Fantasia Film Festival last weekend, Rokuroku is a Japanese anthology horror film featuring nine loosely connected stories about people encountering the yōkai—a supernatural class of demons, spirits, and monsters from Japanese folklore.
The yokai spirits of Japanese folklore were the obvious basis for the long-haired female ghosts of J-Horror and Rokuroku: The Promise of the Witch seems to want to hearken back to the glory days of Ringu and Ju-On. However, the film is almost laughably bad, with the horrible CGI ghosts looking more ridiculous that scary.
The two meet and go to the restaurant at the hotel. In the course of meal, Izumi’s mother calls her to let her know the grandfather’s gone missing. But Izumi and Mika cannot find the exit and suddenly the room numbered 666 appears. ROKUROKU, a log-neck woman wearing a red kimono, is in the room. Izumi and Mika hear a creepy voice.
